WHEN IS IT?
GlastonBARRY FRINGE Festival will take place throughout May 2025 at a number
of venues and spaces in and around Barry.

WHAT IS IT?

It's a collection of free & ticketed events consisting of live music gigs, comedy, drama, workshops, arts and crafts, history walks, talent competitions and lots more.

WHY?

It has grown out of the longstanding work of Mack Events in staging the popular GlastonBARRY music festivals from 2013 to the current day. We have a strong desire to help improve our community and it was felt that a musical and cultural legacy could be left in the local area through the staging of community events. This is our way of giving back to the local community. Working with a fantastic team of local promoters / venues and organisations from Barry, we have put together a series of events throughout May to showcase some of the exceptional talent in the town, to revitalise some of the venues and to give a platform to some of the amazing organisations in Barry. The Fringe Festival Committee carry out this work on a voluntary basis, and the Fringe Festival as a whole is subsidised by Mack Events, our fantastic sponsors - (2025 Headline sponsors - Cardiff Airport) and any additional funding that our team is able to acquire through various bodies such as the Barry Town Council. The project as a whole is a not for profit exercise. The main aim of the festival is to generate goodwill, celebrate and promote culture and to encourage tourism into the town.

2026 is our fourth community festival:

In April 2023 we staged our first event - The Waterfront Festival

In June 2024 we produced our second event - The GlastonBARRY FRINGE Community Arts Festival

In May 2025 we hosted our third event.

WHAT IS COMET?

  Community Organisation Mack Events Team

Background

COMET was set up in Dec 2022. It was launched as a not for profit community interest company which was established as the community arm of Mack Events Presents Limited. Our main goal was to generate goodwill and community spirit in and around Barry.

Registered with Companies House (Company number 141534530). The idea of forming COMET grew out of the longstanding work of Mack Events Presents in staging the popular GlastonBARRY music festivals from 2013 to the current day. We had a strong desire (and still do) to help improve our community and it was felt that a musical and cultural legacy could be left in the local area through the staging of free community events.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding available and the administrational costs involved in running COMET as a separate company to Mack Events, we decided to pause the CIC in early 2025, but our commitment to running the community events on a voluntary basis and staging the GlastonBARRY Fringe Festival remains strong.

Now under the umbrella of Mack Events, rather than Comet CIC, some of the Mack Events team, along with a committee made up of local promoters / organisations and venues in Barry give up their time voluntarily to organise the Fringe Festival. Aimed at revitalising forgotten venues and areas of the town, encouraging young talent, giving local artists / musicians and organisations a platform to perform, generating goodwill in the community and generating footfall in different areas of the town.
